Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy is the combination of light and a light sensitive agent (levulan) to target specific conditions of the skin.

It is used to treat severe acne and pre cancerous lesions (actinic keratosis) The areas that can be treated are the face, scalp, forearms and hands.

The first step is to apply the levulan to the treated areas and allow it to absorb for 1 to 2 hours. Step two is sitting under the blu light for 20 minutes. The targeted cells are then destroyed allowing for the replacement of new healthy cells.

Recovery and Results

It is imperative to avoid sun exposure for 24 hours after the treatment. The skin may be red, swollen and peeling for about 1 week. The skin should be fully repaired in about 1 weeks time with great improvement.
